Culver City wants to let 16-Year-Olds Vote. ARE THEY CRAZY!
Voting at 16 impacts public safety, taxes, and local decisions.

Make your voice heard—vote no on Measure 16.

This is the second time the City Council has tried to lower the voting age to 16. Four years ago, voters rejected the proposal and that election cost taxpayers more than $40,000. This repeat election will cost taxpayers another $50,000.
The measure will add 1,100 voters under age 18 to Culver City’s electorate. In a city where elections have been decided by single digits, dozens of votes, and even a tie, 1,100 votes could significantly influence local election outcomes.
Imagine candidates focusing their campaigns on issues important to high school students in order to win this new voting bloc.
The measure would also make 16- and 17-year-olds eligible to run for City Council and the School Board.

These are not Elections with Training Wheels so your children can “warm up” for the BIG elections. These are real elections that determine who shapes traffic and parking, police staffing, public safety, homelessness policy, zoning near schools, and taxes.
Can you imagine a school board or city council adjusting decisions—like shorter school hours or fewer school days—to appeal to a high school voting bloc?
Will a 16- or 17-year-old voter reinforce your vote, dilute it, or cancel it out? Will they support higher taxes you can’t afford or policies that reduce police presence when you need it most?
